Christian Tournes

Project Role: Discipline Mentor, Guidance and Control

Professional Summary: Mr. Tournes obtained a B.S. in Aerospace from the French Air Force Academy. He served in the French Air Force for more than 10 years, flying aircraft including, but not limited to, the Mirage III and IV. He graduated from Ecole National de l'Aeronautique with a degree in aerospace, with a specialization in turbomachines. Mr. Tournes worked on various air defense missile systems including EUROSAM. He led a multinational team in charge of the initial conceptual studies of NATO Air Command and Control System, embracing all air operations from Norway to Turkey. He worked for Donault Aviation on the integration of the navigation and fire control systems on a version for the Mirage 2000 version.

Research Interests: His research interest with UAH is currently the application of a new control technique called "sliding mode" to the guidance and control of aircraft, missiles, and to the control of air-breaking engines.
